SOCIAL EVENTS

ΟΝE-DAY TOUR TO NAFPLIO

Sunday, 6th of December 2026

Cost: 59 euros

Nafplio is one of the most beautiful cities in Greece. It was the first capital of the newly founded Greek state from 1823 to 1834. It dates back to prehistoric times, it participated in the Argonautic Expedition and the Trojan War, declined in Roman times and recovered in the Byzantine; Franks, Venetians and Turks have all left their mark on the city. Ancient walls, medieval castles, monuments, statues, Ottoman fountains, Venetian and neoclassical buildings – all charming historical and architectural jewels – offer a magnificent welcome for the visitor.

With our visit to Nafplio we will have the opportunity to discover the city’s centuries-old history and culture and enjoy its unique natural beauty. Our “cultural journey” will begin from the castle of Palamidi where we will admire the view of the city and the castle island of Bourtzi.

Then we will be transferred to the port of Nafplio to take the City Tour Happy Train. During the 20-minute trip we will get to know all the important points of the city of Nafplio, passing through the picturesque neighborhood of the Old Town, the Cathedral of Saint George, the War Museum, the Great Road, the Land Gate, the Lion of the Bavarians and many more.

Next, we will visit the Archaeological Museum of Nafplio, which is located in Syntagma Square and is housed in one of the most important Venetian buildings of the city. In the museum we will admire exhibits of rare value from the Prehistoric and Mycenaean periods

After the museum there will be free time to wander the romantic streets of the city, the market and the famous Arvanitia Walk.

A light lunch will be offered in a special bag at the beginning of the excursion.

The cost of the one-day tour (59 euro) includes transport from Harokopio University to Nafplio and back, the guided tour, the tickets for the City Tour Happy Train, the Archaeological Museum and the light lunch in a special conference cooler bag.

A special visit at ‘THE ELLINIKON EXCIBITION CENTRE’ and ‘THE ELLINIKON EXPERIENCE PARK’

Sunday, 6th of December 2026

Cost: (free) 0 euros

As part of the social events of the 4th Open Air Cities International Conference, a special visit is scheduled for Saturday, December 5th from 12:00 to 16:00, at ‘The Ellinikon Excibition Centre’ and ‘The Ellinikon Experience Park’.

We will visit the site of the historic Athens International Airport, the area where a new world-class destination is being created today. A new “smart” and “green” city on the Athenian Riviera, where it composes the largest urban regeneration project in Europe.

At The Ellinikon Experience Centre we will experience an interactive tour that reveals the world of ‘The Ellinikon’. It is an educational and entertaining destination at the same time. We will travel to the future of urban regeneration, today.
